Gabriel is running to secure St. Pete’s future by bringing strong, balanced leadership to the
City’s most pressing challenges—and opportunities.
In service to St. Pete, Gabriel will draw on his experience in public service as well as the private
sector.
Before law school, Gabriel served nonprofit organizations as an investment advisor
representative, working with board members and executive leadership to navigate the financial
markets, responsibly steward donor funds, and ensure as many dollars as possible were
directed to advance the organization’s mission.
He understands the significant and immediate impact local government can have on residents’
quality of life, economic security, and safety. Gabriel has experience in local government: he
served on his school district’s financial oversight committee ensuring tax dollars were allocated
in alignment with voter intent.
As an Assistant Public Defender, Gabriel knows what it takes to advocate effectively for
others—both in the courtroom and in the public square. Representing the most vulnerable
members of our community, Gabriel fights every day to ensure each individual’s Constitutional
rights are protected, Due Process is followed, and their voices are heard in the courtroom.
His true passion is helping young people overcome their circumstances, rebound, and become
successful members of the community. He has represented children and teenagers in juvenile
delinquency court, working to connect each child with the resources they need to thrive:
mental health counseling, school enrollment, job training, and mentorship opportunities. No
young person should be defined by a momentary lapse in judgment.
Gabriel will champion the civil rights of every resident of St. Pete. As a community organizer,
Gabriel marshalled community opposition to a pre-Census gerrymandering scheme challenged
in federal court on the basis of the US and Florida Constitutions. This effort inspired Gabriel to
leave his career in finance and seek a legal education so that he could be equipped with the
knowledge—and know-how—to hold power to account. In addition, Gabriel has championed
initiatives to expand voter participation across underrepresented communities. As an advocate
for LGBTQ people, Gabriel has supported allied candidates and worked to secure full civil rights
for all people.
